How to evaluate character card quality
Evaluate completeness, consistency, openings, formatting, and source health.
Start with completeness
A good card need not be long, but it should establish identity, behavior, scenario, and interaction direction. Marketing copy and repetitive tags usually mean more trial and error.
Check cover, description, creator, source link, and recent availability.
Inspect prompt structure
The first message should create an actionable scene without making every decision for the user. Example dialogue should demonstrate tone and format without conflicting with system instructions.
Use lorebooks for conditional background and system prompts for global behavior.
Validate with a short chat
Test 5–10 turns with the same model and settings. Watch for character drift, broken formatting, and repeated opening information. One strong reply does not prove long-term stability.
Record the model, context size, and failures so others can reproduce the result.
